Redland Bay Based Canvas Repairs

Yes, we repair canvas and PVC gear here in Brisbane, and in most cases you don’t need to replace the whole thing. Bring us your torn ute cover, split trailer tarp, dodgy caravan annexe zip or a cover that’s gone baggy, and we’ll re-stitch, patch, re-zip, resize or re-proof it at our Redland Bay workshop.
Because we manufacture covers from scratch, we can fix gear we made and gear made by someone else.

Here’s what we mend and how it works.

A repair is almost always cheaper and faster than starting again, so it’s worth a phone call before you write anything off. Split seams, a zip that’s jammed or torn out, a rip from a branch or a tie-down, worn eyelets, a cover that’s stretched or shrunk out of shape: these are everyday jobs for us. We work in the same heavy canvas and PVC we build covers from, so the repair matches the original gear instead of being a bodge that lets go a month later.

If you’ve got a torn cover and you need it back in service, call us on 0411 781 221. Tell us what’s happened and we’ll tell you straight whether it’s a quick fix or worth replacing.

What canvas and PVC repairs do you actually do?

We handle the full range of canvas and PVC repairs, from a single blown seam to a full resize, all done in-house in Redland Bay. If it’s stitched, zipped, eyeleted or proofed, chances are we can sort it. Here’s what comes across the bench most:

  • Re-stitching: blown seams and loose stitching sewn back up in matching heavy thread so the join holds.
  • Zip and zipper replacement: jammed, split or torn-out zips swapped for new heavy-duty ones on annexes, covers and canopies.
  • Patches and tears: rips from branches, tie-downs or road debris patched in matching canvas or PVC so they don’t spread.
  • Resizing and alterations: covers taken in, let out or reshaped when your setup, trailer or van changes.
  • Re-proofing: tired, leaky canvas re-proofed so it sheds water again instead of soaking through.
  • Eyelet and fixing repairs: pulled eyelets, worn fixings, straps and fasteners replaced so the cover ties down properly.

If your problem isn’t on that list, ring us anyway. We see all sorts through the workshop, and we’ll give you an honest read on whether it’s fixable.

Custom modifications are also on the table. Adding a window, door, ventilation panel, shade wall, or access point is often more practical than sourcing a replacement cover that doesn’t quite fit your setup.

Can you repair a cover you didn’t make?

Yes. We repair canvas and PVC gear no matter who made it, because the skills and the machines are the same whether we built it or not. Plenty of the repairs we do are on covers, tarps and annexes bought elsewhere or picked up second-hand. As long as the base fabric has enough life left in it, we can usually work with it.

Where we’ll tell you straight is when a cover is past it. If the canvas is rotten, sun-perished across the whole panel, or the fabric tears the moment you touch it, a patch won’t hold and we’ll say so. In that case we’ll talk about remaking it rather than taking your money for a repair that won’t last.
Either way, you get a straight answer, not a sales pitch.

Because we also manufacture, a repair can turn into an upgrade if it makes sense. If your annexe zip keeps failing because it was underdone for the job, we can fit a heavier one while it’s on the bench.

How much does a canvas repair cost, and how long does it take?

Cost and turnaround depend on the damage, the fabric and how busy the workshop is, so the honest answer is to call for a realistic figure on your job. A single zip swap is a very different job to re-stitching a whole annexe or resizing a trailer cover, and we’d rather quote it properly than throw out a number that’s wrong.

What helps us give you a quick, accurate answer:

  • Tell us the item: ute cover, trailer tarp, caravan annexe, boat storage cover, awning and so on.
  • Tell us what’s wrong: torn zip, split seam, rip, leaking, gone baggy.
  • Send a photo if you can: a quick pic of the damage tells us a lot before you even drive over.

If it’s a commercial cover and you’re losing time with it out of action, say so when you ring. We understand a torn cover on a work trailer isn’t a “next month” problem, and we’ll do what we can to turn urgent jobs around quickly.

Local repairs you can drop in and talk through

LJ Covers is a Redland Bay workshop run by Jason and Leah Kemp, serving the Redlands Coast, greater Brisbane and wider Queensland.
Because we manufacture as well as repair, a few things come with the territory:

  • Matching materials: repairs done in the same heavy canvas and PVC we build covers from.
  • Straight talk: we’ll tell you if a cover is past saving instead of patching it for the sake of it.
  • One workshop: covers, canopies, annexes and tarps all made and mended under the one roof.
  • Redland Bay made: your repair is done on site, not sent off somewhere else.

If the repair turns out not to be worth it, we can make you a new one to measure. Plenty of customers who come in for a repair end up sorting a fresh Custom Tonneau Cover for the ute, new Custom Tarps for the trailer, or a Caravan Covers and Annexes job for the van. One conversation, gear that fits.

You’ll find us at Unit 4/107 Jardine Dr, Redland Bay QLD 4165.

Industries We Support

Who We Work With For Repairs And Alterations

Jason Kemp has spent 25 years fabricating and repairing canvas, PVC, and poly-fabric products across Queensland.
He and his wife Leah own and operate LJ Covers in Redland Bay and their view towards repairs is straightforward: if there’s usable material left in a cover, it’s almost always worth fixing. A well-done repair with proper reinforcement, matched material, hot-air welded seams, will adds years to something that would otherwise go to landfill.

tradie or fleet operators

A worn tonneau cover or blown truck curtain is a working tool, not a cosmetic issue. We turn around most straightforward repairs quickly — bring it in or we’ll come to you across SEQ.

caravan or camper owners

Annexes, awnings, and camper covers take real punishment from UV and wind. We repair tears, replace zips and mesh screens, and reinforce stress points so your setup is ready for the next trip.

event hire businesses

Marquees and pavilion tents need regular maintenance to stay hire-ready. We work with hire companies across SEQ on ongoing repairs, seam reinforcement, and hardware replacement to keep inventory in rotation.

mining, agriculture, or construction

Heavy-duty covers, and large tarps that go beyond what a general shop will touch. Jason has worked on large-scale industrial textile projects for over two decades.

homeowners

Canvas outdoor awnings are worth repairing when the core material is still sound. Drop it in at the workshop or enquire about our mobile service for larger fixed installations.

Work We Cannot Do

If a cover has lost structural integrity across the bulk of the material, severe UV degradation, widespread delamination, or damage beyond repair — we’ll say so. Replacement fabrication is something we do too, and sometimes it’s the more cost-effective path.

Canvas Repairs FAQs

Got a question? Find answers to common questions about our services, products and custom solutions.

Yes. We’re a canvas and PVC repair workshop in Redland Bay, serving greater Brisbane, the Redlands Coast, the Gold Coast run and wider Queensland. We handle re-stitching, patches, zip replacement, resizing and re-proofing on ute covers, trailer tarps, caravan annexes and more. Call 0411 781 221 or drop the item into the workshop.

Yes, zip and zipper replacement is one of our most common repairs. We take out the jammed, split or torn zip and fit a new heavy-duty one that suits the job, whether it’s a caravan annexe, a ute canopy or a cover. If the old zip failed because it was too light for the use, we can step it up while it’s on the bench.

In most cases a repair is cheaper and faster than replacing, especially for a single seam, zip or tear. It comes down to how much life is left in the base fabric. If the canvas is sun-perished or rotten across the whole cover, a patch won’t hold and remaking it is the better spend. Ring us on 0411 781 221 and we’ll give you a straight read.

Yes. We repair canvas and PVC gear regardless of who made it, including covers bought elsewhere or second-hand. As long as the fabric has enough life left, we can usually re-stitch, patch, re-zip or resize it. If it’s too far gone to hold a repair, we’ll tell you honestly rather than take the job on.

It depends on the damage and how busy the workshop is. A single zip or a small patch is a quick job, while re-stitching a full annexe or resizing a trailer cover takes longer. If it’s a commercial cover and you need it back fast, tell us when you call and we’ll do what we can to turn it around quickly.
