Covers for growing structures, made to your structure In Brisbane

A growing structure only performs as well as the fabric covering it. When a shade house cover degrades, light levels drop with it. When a tunnel house skin starts to chalk and tear, heat retention goes and stock losses follow. Because almost every structure on a working nursery has been extended, patched or rebuilt at some point, a straight replacement rarely comes off a standard roll.

We measure what is actually standing, and we make the cover to it, at our factory in Redland Bay. Not a stock size trimmed to fit.

Material specification and sourcing

Please note, we are a manufacturer, not a fabric mill and not a certifier. What we bring is specification judgement and supply access: knowing which construction suits the application, sourcing it from a supplier who can certify it, and manufacturing it correctly.

MATERIAL CLASSSPECIFIED FORTYPICAL SITE APPLICATION
Knitted shade clothWill not run or fray when cut, and forgiving on a structure that moves. Shade factor selected to the crop rather than to a defaultShade houses, hardening off areas, stock and bench shade
Woven shade clothHigher dimensional stability and a denser weave. Holds a tensioned shape more predictably over a large spanLarge tensioned shade structures, long term installations
Coated woven polyethyleneImpermeable, UV stable, weldable. Hot air and wedge weldable, so seams are continuous rather than perforatedGreenhouse roofs and walling, structure covers, roll up side walls
Windbreak meshWind speed reduced while airflow is retained, so the structure is not taking the load a solid panel wouldBoundary and block windbreak, exposed bay screening
Reinforced PVCHigh tear strength and abrasion resistance, weldable, available in blockout and translucentHeavy duty walling, drop down walls, high wear positions
Clear and translucent gradesLight transmission retained while the space is closed to weatherEnd walls, door panels, viewing and access sections
Greenhouse and tunnel filmsLight transmission, diffusion and anti drip properties selected to the crop

What determines your specification

  • Shade factor. This is a crop decision, not a default. Tell us what you are growing and what is working now, and if you are replacing something that never quite worked, tell us what the problem was so we do not repeat it.
  • Light transmission and diffusion. On covered structures, how light is spread matters as much as how much gets through.
  • Wind exposure. An open block takes load a sheltered one does not. Mesh passes air that a solid panel has to resist, and that changes the fixing pattern as well as the fabric.
  • Structure type and spacing. Hoop spacing, bay width and end detail all change the finished panel layout. We template to what is standing, including the extensions.
  • How it is tensioned or driven. A tensioned cover, a roll up wall on a winch and a fixed panel are three different builds. Tell us the mechanism you already have.
  • Service life expected. A two season crop cover and a ten year structure skin justify different grades, and we will say plainly which one we are quoting.
  • Weldability. A hot air or wedge welded seam is continuous, where a stitched seam puts a needle hole every few millimetres along the line that flexes hardest. On a structure cover that is usually where failure starts, so the seam method and the fabric choice get decided together.

What we make for nurseries and growers

Shade house covers and replacement shade cloth

Covers made to your bay and fixed to suit how the structure is tensioned. If you already know the shade percentage that works on your blocks, we will match it.

Tunnel house and igloo covers

Replacement skins made to the hoop spacing, the length and the end detail of the structure you have. Where a tunnel has been extended, we can match a new section into the existing run.

Greenhouse roof and wall fabrics

Roof and wall fabrics for greenhouses and protected cropping, made to your frame.

Roll up and drop down side walls

Side walls made to work with the winch, rope or crank system already on the structure, so the replacement drops straight into the mechanism you have.

Windbreak and crop protection

Windbreak screening for exposed blocks and boundaries, and crop protection covers made to the bed, bay or block dimensions.

Flower and cut flower growers

Cut flower crops are less forgiving than most. Wind damages stems, and the shade level has to suit the crop rather than just knock the heat down. We make shade house covers, replacement structure covers, windbreak and crop protection to your dimensions, and we will talk through shade percentage and fabric choice with you rather than supplying whatever is on the roll.

Bench, bed and stock covers

Covers for benches, beds and held stock, including short term protection through a weather event.

Machinery and equipment covers

Covers cut to the machine rather than thrown over it, for gear that lives outside between uses.

Tank liners

We fabricate tank liners to your tank, cut and welded in the workshop and fitted on site. This is work we do a lot of and genuinely enjoy.

Repairs, re-covers and replacement fabric

A tear in a shade house cover is usually worth repairing rather than replacing the whole thing. We restitch, reweld, patch, and replace eyelets, ropes, tensioners and fittings, including on covers we did not make. Where a structure is sound and only the fabric has gone, a re-cover is normally the cheaper path.

Why growers use a local manufacturer

If your site needs ongoing cover maintenance or periodic replacement as part of a larger operation, we can talk through a standing arrangement rather than treating every job as a one-off.

  • Made to the structure you have: we template to what is standing, including the extensions and the repairs, rather than supplying a stock size and asking you to make it work.
  • Made nearby: manufactured at Redland Bay, so a measure, a repair or a matching panel is a short drive rather than a freight cycle.
  • Repairable: we repair covers whoever made them.

We needed a small repair to a swag and LJ Covers was able to fix it on the spot. They were efficient, professional and very easy to deal with. I would have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone needing repairs or canvas work.

Our business recently got LJ Covers to make a large industrial strength 15m x 10m 16oz canvas ripstop tarp and couldn’t be happier. It’s heavy-duty, strong, and the tie-downs are solid. The fabric quality is much better than tarpaulins we’ve bought elsewhere before. Service was great the whole way through. We also saw they do trailer canopies, so got one organised as well, and that turned out spot on. Heavy-duty PVC, zips and all the bells n whistles. Very happy and would definitely recommend LJ Covers

This company is incredible. The workers there are friendly and helpful, they provide good quality products. The materials and effort they put into each customer is 5/5. I had them do my shade sails and it looks amazing, the fabric was and felt really durable to hold against the storms and high wind where I live. I Highly recommend going to LJ covers!

Nursery and horticulture FAQs

Got a question? Find answers to common questions about our services, products and custom solutions.

Yes. Tell us the grade you are running and we will match it. If you are not sure what is on there, we can usually work it out from a sample.

Knitted will not fray or run when it is cut and is forgiving on a structure that moves. Woven is more dimensionally stable and holds a tensioned shape more predictably over a large span. We will recommend against your structure rather than in general.

Yes, and most of them have been. We measure what is actually standing and make the cover to that.

Yes. Restitching, rewelding, patching and hardware replacement are all standard work for us.

Yes, for properties within reach of Redland Bay. Further out we work from your measurements taken to a template we supply, or from photographs with the dimensions marked on them.

That depends on the fabric grade, the UV load and how the structure is tensioned. Manufacturers publish UV warranties on some grades: Gale Pacific states up to a 10 year UV warranty on Canvacon depending on grade. We will tell you what the fabric we are recommending is rated for rather than give you a general answer.

Yes. Tell us what is currently on there and we will get as close as the fabric range allows.
